Soft Construction

Soft Construction is the solo recording project of Derek Sasu Bampoh.
Taking the name from a Salvador DalĂ painting, Soft Construction also aims to represent the surreal and strange, regularly pulling from a variety of influences and sources for inspiration, while seamlessly exploring a multitude of genres. His latest release, the extended play Blue Periods (electronica, art rock, experimental, noise, ambient), draws its concept upon the depiction of dark and anguished characters painted by Pablo Picasso during his Blue Period, while pushing the boundaries with harsh electronic drums, warped samples, fuzzy guitars and ambient textures.

Biography
Soft Construction (Derek Sasu Bampoh, born in London in 1991) became a public solo project during the pandemic in 2020, however, it has been a vessel for Derek's raw creations as early as 2014, where he originally created a multitude of home demos to provide the platform for the formation of a band. After various attempts at developing this into a full collaborative project, as well as brief stints in other indie bands, the isolation of social distancing became the instigation needed to take the initiative to wholly own the project and create a mass of material with abandon.Years later, the discography and artistry has evolved and only grown in strength and quality per release - the production quality has taken a cosmic leap, exhibiting often complex and maximalist arrangements. Songs flexibly showcase a wide breadth of genres, ranging from ambient soundscapes, experimental electronica, industrial metal, shoegaze, lo-fi and psychedelia rock. Lyrical influences are also as wide and varied as art, philosophy, romance, space, time, the environment, society, nightlife, drugs, internet memes and references to The Simpsons.***"Soft Construction is DIY at its core, and is a proponent of creating art for arts sake. Music has long had the power to connect and traverse barriers to engage and provide meaning to life's various challenges and exploits - and I hope this project helps to provide a unique perspective and an avenue for exploration, and inspire others, particularly Black British kids like myself, to not be tied to stereotypes and to make what speaks to your heart. We only do this because it's supposed to be fun..."
